Being asked to photograph a friend’s wedding is always a great honour, but it comes with it’s own set of challenges, not to mention the pressure.
Several years ago, back in 2008, I met Mel when she booked me for a commercial photoshoot for Global Personals, a client who I’ve managed to continue to work for each year since. Several bookings later and we became friends, and I’ve always joked that once she met the right man, I would have to be her wedding photographer!
Fast forward to Christmas 2014, and after a year or so together, the awesome Richard (‘Dickie’ to friends!) finally proposed to Mel. I got ‘the text’ from Mel early in January 2015, asking if I was busy in September. With only one possible reason for this text, I had to reply with the only response possible; “Sorry, I’m shooting a friend’s wedding!”. It didn’t take long for Mel to figure out that I was talking about her, so I was relieved when she did actually then reply with a “Please can you photograph our wedding?”. As if I would ever say no!
With Mel’s taste for the finer things in life, I knew this would be no ordinary wedding, and I wasn’t wrong! An incredible dress by Nicholas Oakwell (Dickie’s brother, no less!), Mel’s amazing event planning & style, and the understated but fabulous Hotel du Vin, Bristol , combined with all of their fantastic friends and family, meant that I was feeling the pressure. I hope I did them proud!
At the time of writing, Mr & Mrs Kentish are still on their honeymoon, so here is a little taster of their incredible day. More photos will follow soon on an extended blog post, so please check back!
